This is so much more than pop-punk.
It feels like it’s become too easy to place bands, especially those of a pop-punk nature, into nice, neat, manageable piles. That’s why boundary-smashing outfits like We Were Sharks are so important.
Dashing between early ’00s-style bounce (‘Without You’, ‘Bridge Burner’), crunching easycore brutality (‘Not A Chance In Halifax’) and sunshine-soaked joy (‘Say It Like You Mean It’), the band display their wide spectrum of tastes proudly.
As a whole ‘Not A Chance’ serves as a sweet palate cleanser to a genre that can easily become bland and predictable – with some simply great songs along the way. Make sure you remember the name.
