(AllHipHop News) Rapper/actor Ice Cube is in talks to make a new “Friday” sequel, 14 years after the last film in the comedy trilogy was released.
The Ride Along star took to Twitter to update fans about the planned film, titled “Last Friday,” insisting he will only reprise his role as Craig Jones for the right story.
“We had a meeting,” he began. “Can’t do Last Friday unless we can do it right. Ball is in (studio) New Line Cinema’s hands. Bat is in mine”.
He also dismissed rumors suggesting his son, actor O’Shea Jackson, Jr., and comedian DC Young Fly would be taking over the lead roles in a new “Friday” film, after images of the pair were posted on Facebook.
Sharing a snapshot of the post, he declared: “This is fake. My son doesn’t have a Facebook account. Can’t mess with a classic.”
Ice Cube’s comments come two years after he claimed the long-gestating project had stalled at New Line.
In a Reddit question and answer session, he wrote, “The next ‘Friday’ movie is caught up in development hell at New Line Cinema. Pray that we get it outta there.”
Ice Cube co-created the comedy franchise back in 1995 with, “Friday,” which co-starred Chris Tucker.
He followed it up with two sequels – 2000’s “Next Friday” and 2002’s “Friday After Next.”
